Appliqué and hand stitch collage

Hand knit mixing cotton, wool and synthetic yarns

Since graduating with a BA (Hons) degree in Textile Design from Huddersfield Polytechnic in 1991, I have worked as a freelance knitwear designer, retail clothing buyer and am currently teaching fashion and textiles at West Kent College.  Since moving to Brighton six years ago I have continued the development of my own textile practice through a range of drawing, painting and textile courses.

Free machine embroidery on organza and nylon voile fabrics

Mixed media collage hand stitched metal, hessian, yarn and paper

My recent art based textile work explores and combines a range of techniques including appliqué, hand painted dyes, shibori, knit and stitch. My work tends to be lead by the qualities of the materials that I select and has a spontaneous element to it.  I am drawn to flowing organic shapes and natural forms as a visual and textural theme with endless possibilities.
