Elizabeth Carter

As my mother was a milliner and dressmaker I cannot recall a time when I was not surrounded by fabrics and threads.

From an early age as many of my age group will remember I was used to making clothes - firstly for dolls, later for myself - it was what girls did! No art classes for girls in school, only needlework.

I began my adventure into Experimental Textiles with Kim Thittichai five years ago at Union Place Worthing.

I was hooked from day one. Unable to do a great deal of hand stitch I later signed up for C&G Machine Embroidery Course.

In my day job in teaching I am a specialist tutor for students with SpLD (Dyslexia) which requires great patience and concentration.

My play with textiles provides a perfect counterbalance to the stress.

If it were not for the need to earn a living I could easily fill my time with textiles (and gardening).
